Cafe Crew Member
Part-Time seasonal, 16-32 hrs/week, compensation range $16-19/hr DOE, plus employee perks & shared tips
Reports To: Store owners Tim & Rebecca Lindenmeyr, Cafe Manager, or Store Manager on Duty (MOD)
About The Elmore Store: The Elmore Store is the hub and heart of the town. It’s the official “third place” - a location outside of home and work, open to all, where people can gather and socialize, fostering a sense of community and belonging. All Elmore Store employees are part of a team dedicated to providing as positive and functional a third space as possible, while also providing essential services to the community.
The Elmore Store Cafe will be a small, vibrant, community-focused, farm-to-table cafe, known for its high-quality casual entrees, to be enjoyed either as grab-n-go or in-person waterfront dining (16 seats). We will offer delicious baked goods and espresso, sandwiches, soups, salads, charcuterie boards, pizzas and delightful ice cream treats. We will serve beer and wine in the cafe for guests to enjoy with their meals, and will host monthly outdoor concerts with grilled food. The brand new kitchen is open and customer facing so providing exceptional customer service in a welcoming and friendly atmosphere is a priority.
Position Overview: This multifaceted role requires a friendly and efficient individual who can expertly handle various tasks, including crafting specialty coffee drinks, preparing and serving deli items, and swirling creemee cones. Morning shifts will focus on Barista duties, assisting the AM cook with breakfast and lunch sandwiches, and assisting the baker with baked goods. The PM shifts will focus on assisting the Lead Cook with afternoon snacks, pizzas and serving creemees. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, possess excellent customer service skills, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. You will be a key player in creating positive experiences for our customers.
Responsibilities:
Barista Duties:
Prepare and serve a variety of hot and cold coffee and espresso beverages according to established recipes and quality standards.
Operate and maintain espresso machines, grinders, and other coffee equipment.
Take customer orders accurately and efficiently.
Provide recommendations and answer questions about coffee and tea selections.
Maintain a clean and organized barista station.
Deli Duties:
Assist in the preparation of ingredients as directed.
Prepare and serve sandwiches, salads, soups, pizzas and other deli items according to established recipes and portion control guidelines.
Slice meats and cheeses using deli slicers safely and accurately as trained.
Maintain the freshness and quality of deli ingredients. Stock deli shelves, displays, and coolers accurately and efficiently, ensuring proper rotation of products (FIFO - First In, First Out).
Ensure proper food handling and sanitation procedures are followed.
Ice Cream Server Duties:
Assist customers with ice cream selections and provide information about flavors. Swirl and serve ice cream and other frozen desserts.
Prepare pints, sundaes, and other ice cream creations.
Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the ice cream display and serving area.
General Responsibilities:
Provide exceptional customer service with a positive and friendly attitude.
Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system accurately for order taking and payment processing.
Handle cash and card transactions efficiently and accurately.
Restock supplies and notify management when inventory is low.
Maintain an organized work environment
Participate in all cleaning duties, including busing tables and dishwashing.
Follow all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines.
Assist with opening and closing duties as needed.

Qualifications:
Previous experience as a barista, deli server, or ice cream server is preferred but not always required. We are willing to train motivated individuals.
Passion for coffee, food, and providing excellent customer service.
Ability to learn quickly and follow recipes and procedures.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent attention to safety procedures, detail and organizational skills.
Basic math skills for order taking and cash handling.
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift 25-50lbs.
Must be reliable and punctual.
Training & Certifications:
All Baristas will be trained by our coffee supplier to ensure the highest quality product and experience
Employees handling food will be required to complete the 2-hr VT State approved / ANSI/ANAB accredited Food Safety Training Course, pass the 40 question exam and obtain their Food Handlers Card. The Training Course will be organized and paid for by the Elmore Store.
Any employee who serves alcohol in the cafe must be 18 years or older, and attend an online server training program and obtain certification.

Grocery Cashier
Up to full time (35+ hours) seasonal, compensation starting at $18/hr plus employee perks
Position Overview: As a Grocery Cashier, you are the face of our store, providing friendly, efficient, and accurate checkout service to our valued customers. Your primary responsibility is to process customer transactions with efficiency and accuracy while ensuring a positive shopping experience. You will also be responsible for maintaining a clean and organized checkout area and assisting with other front-end duties as needed. Occasionally morning shifts may need to assist the MOD with mail distribution.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Customer Service:
Assist customers in locating products and answer their questions accurately and efficiently.
Provide information about product features, promotions, and store services.
Offer suggestions and recommendations to enhance the customer's shopping experience.
Greet customers warmly and professionally as they approach the checkout.
Maintain a friendly and helpful attitude throughout the transaction.
Handle customer complaints and concerns with professionalism, referring issues to management for resolution as needed.
Thank customers for their business and invite them to return.
Transaction Processing:
Scan all items accurately and efficiently.
Operate the cash register and handle various payment methods (cash, credit/debit cards, EBT, gift cards, mobile payments) with accuracy.
Make the correct change and issue receipts.
Process returns and exchanges according to store policy.
Handle coupons and discounts correctly.
Ensure all transactions are completed in compliance with legal and store regulations.
Cash Handling and Balancing:
Maintain an accurate cash drawer throughout the shift.
Count and reconcile the cash drawer at the beginning and end of each shift.
Report any discrepancies to the supervisor immediately.
Secure cash and other valuables according to store procedures.
Checkout Area Maintenance:
Keep the checkout area clean, organized, and free of clutter.
Ensure adequate supplies are available (bags, register tape, etc.).
Report any equipment malfunctions to the supervisor.

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Certifications:

All cashiers must take the State of Vermont Dept of Liquor 2nd Class Seller Training Program and receive certification (short online course paid for by the Elmore Store).

Frequent standing, walking, and reaching.
Occasional lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds.
Repetitive hand movements for scanning and keying.
Ability to see and read product labels and register displays.
